Holiday Gatherings: 6 Precautions You Should Take If Hosting
Christmas is near; how are you planning on spreading cheer? Do you plan on gathering together virtually or in person? If you do choose to get together with your loved ones in person, it is important to encourage your guests to take extra precautions before, during, and after their visit.
1. Encourage Guests to Get Tested Prior
To help keep you and your guests safe, make it a requirement for every person in attendance to get tested before coming over. Even though your guests may think they are fine, they could be asymptomatic and not know that they have it. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
2. Limit Attendance
Instead of inviting all your extended family, consider limiting the number of families in attendance. With fewer attendees, it means lower risk of spreading the virus.
3. Use Outdoor Spaces
If possible, try to hold all the festivities, especially the main meal, outdoors if you can. If this is not an option, try to use an indoor space that is well ventilated and allows for physical distancing. If the gathering is being held indoors, try to keep the windows and doors open to get air flow through the home. It also may be beneficial to use portable air cleaners to help reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
4. Keep Extra Personal Protective Equipment On Hand
As the host, it’s a good idea to be prepared. Keep extra masks, hand sanitizer, and tissues on hand for any guests who may not have brought their own.
5. Use Disposable Items
To help limit the spread of COVID-19, use disposable products such as single use plates, utensils, and to-go containers. It not only makes for easy cleanup, but it also is more sanitary.
6. Promote Social Distancing
If guests are going to be at your home, make sure to remind them to social distance as much as possible.
