How to Handle and Avoid the Holiday Stress
‘Tis the season for holiday shopping and spending time with loved ones… whether it’s in person or over Zoom. Whatever you decide, stay safe, folks!
The holidays can be a stressful time. We don’t want to see you run down during these happy times.
Here’s how to maintain mental and physical health as you are racing around for the holidays.
1. Set Expectations
One of the best ways to relieve pressure is by setting expectations with your family regarding timelines, budgets and how you want to go about giving. Perhaps you decide to get everyone a gift for $25, or maybe you decide to do a gift exchange to make it easier to focus on just one person. By establishing these guidelines ahead of time, it gives you comfort knowing what you’re getting yourself into.
2. Plan Ahead
Most people feel stressed when they try to do things at the last minute. Whether the store sold out of the item you are looking for, or you have to wait in a long line, it makes you feel uneasy. By planning in advance, it not only guarantees that the item you are looking for will be on the shelf, but once you are done shopping, you can enjoy the holiday festivities without having to worry.
3. Prioritize
Just like Santa, you’ll want to make a list before you do your holiday shopping. Make a list of who you need to shop for and which items you want to purchase for each person. This list will not only give you an estimate of how much you will be spending, but it also helps you determine the order you should shop in.
If you live near the Aliso Town Center, you may want to start there first to knock off some items off your list and then make your way towards Irvine Spectrum or Mission Viejo Mall. Without a list, you may be making multiple trips to the same stores.
4. Monitor Spending
It’s all fun and games when you are out shopping, but it is important to take the time to sit down and look back at your transactions for two reasons. Reviewing your spending helps you stay on top of your budget and by doing so, it ensures that the charges you are making are ones you’ve made and not someone else. Many fraudsters try to take advantage of this surge in spending to make moves.
