Sofia 2 Rapid COVID-19 Test: Available in Aliso Viejo
While work is underway on a vaccine, detection and treatment are the best plans of attack. South Coast Medical Group is proud to be one of the first in Orange County to offer the antibody test. Now, we are excited to offer the Sofia 2 Rapid COVID-19 test.
This offers our patients immediate peace of mind if they think they are currently battling the virus. Meanwhile, the antibody test is great for people who believe they may have once had the virus without detection at the time.
To help our patients better understand how the test works, we wanted to share some information.
The Sofia 2 Rapid COVID-19 test is used to detect protein antigens from SARS-CoV-2. The test consists of a nasal swab from individuals who are suspected of having COVID19 within the first five days of the onset of symptoms.
Positive results indicate that there is a presence of viral antigens, but other factors such as patient history and diagnostic information can affect the results. Positive results do not mean that bacterial infection or co-infection with other viruses can be ruled out.
Negative results do not mean that you are 100% clear of COVID-19. This test should not be used as the only indicator. Negative results should be considered based on a patient’s recent exposures, history and the presence of clinical signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
