The Best Ways to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain
There is nothing better than spending time with family and enjoying the traditional meals you eat with your loved ones each year. Although you may want to indulge in your favorite holiday meals, it is important to stay strong and stick to healthy eating. We share some tips to help you avoid the holiday weight gain this year.
1. Start Prepping Early
Before an event, party, or holiday meal like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah or New Years Eve, try to eat extra healthy and light in preparation for the big meal. A few days before try to cut the alcohol, coffee, and red meat intake and limit your sugar.
2. Eat Regular Meals
Although you may be tempted to skip meals to make more room for Thanksgiving dinner, you shouldn’t do this. If you skip meals, you could end up overeating and making matters worse. Try to eat something healthy every four hours prior to the meal to keep you on track.
3. Wear Fitted Clothes
If you are wearing tight and fitted clothes compared to loose clothing, it will be less desirable to overeat.
4. Trick Yourself Into Eating Healthier
When it’s time to eat, make it a point to fill most of your plate with lean proteins and vegetables, and leave a quarter of the space for the unhealthy foods that you love. In the quarter of space, let yourself have about three golf-ball-sized portions of three of your favorite dishes. For dessert, allow yourself to have two golf ball scoops of pie, ice cream or other treats that may be served.
5. Strategically Pack Leftovers
After your holiday dinner is over, meal prep your leftovers in tupperware containers. For example, after Thanksgiving, add a slice of turkey, some green beans, and a scoop of one of your favorite sides in each container and then freeze some of those containers. These meals will be great later when you need to fix a quick dinner.
6. Get Rid of Temptations
Before your guests leave, urge them to take leftovers home. By doing this, it not only prevents you from overeating to prevent wasting food, but it also eliminates you from indulging in too many unhealthy leftovers later.
