Coronavirus: What It Is and How to Protect Yourself
The coronavirus, also known as COVID-19 is an infectious respiratory illness that spreads from person to person through droplets from coughs and sneezes. It first emerged in Wuhan, China and has since spread across the world. The individuals who are most at risk are older individuals, those with autoimmune diseases, those who have HIV, those with asthma, and pregnant women. The coronavirus has an incubation period within 14 days.
Once you have been infected, you will begin to experience symptoms such as a cough, fever, and shortness of breath. The main challenge that we have with COVID-19 is that it is highly contagious, and we do not have a vaccine for it. Although you may experience mild to moderate respiratory illness, you most likely will be able to recover without requiring special treatment if you are healthy.
At South Coast Medical, we not only want to help those that are infected with COVID-19, but we also want to keep our community safe by providing current updates on how we plan to take precautionary measures at our center, share the status of the coronavirus in our community, and by sharing tips on how to prevent catching the virus over the next couple of weeks.
