American Heart Month: How Do You Observe It?
It’s February, which means it’s time to raise awareness to a cause that is important: heart disease. According to the CDC, “heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. One person dies every 37 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease”.
Our team here at South Coast Medical Group OC wants to ensure our patients stay healthy and follow a path to better heart health by taking preventative measures against heart disease.
Heart disease affects many people, whether they are taking preventative measures or not. Although you cannot control every factor, there are some ways that you can reduce the risk of getting it. We explain the best practices to be able to do so.
Learn How to Take Preventative Measures:
Being at risk for heart disease is not only based on your gender, race, and ethnicity but also on your health history. In addition to those factors, there are other ways that you could be at risk. The factors that can put you at risk include:
- Diabetes

- High Cholesterol
- Stress
- Lack of Sleep
- Unhealthy Diet
- Overweight/Obesity
- Physical Inactivity
- Excessive Alcohol Consumption
Although there are many factors that cannot be controlled, there are plenty of other factors that can be. The best way to prevent being at risk is by creating a healthier lifestyle for yourself by eating healthier, getting the sleep and exercise you need, and avoiding smoking and drinking excessively.
