Worried about Coronavirus? Don’t Overlook Cold & Flu Season
Throughout the year, we always try to avoid catching a cold and the flu. Although you may think the worst has already passed us, there seems to be a second peak, according to the CDC.
Our team here at South Coast Medical Group OC wants to keep our patients updated when it comes to their health. It is important for us to keep our community of Aliso Viejo healthy from the cold and flu. The best way to do so is to share the knowledge and to take preventative measures to ensure we keep ourselves and the community safe.
Learn About the Status of the Cold & Flu Season:
Although the coronavirus has been given lots of attention recently, the flu has caused a substantial number of infections in 47 states so far. The CDC estimates that the flu has led to 180,000 hospitalizations this season and sixty-eight children deaths.
At the beginning of the year, the B strain was the more prominent strain that people were catching. However, recently the A strain has picked up the pace. Due to the increase in the A strain getting passed from person to person, we are now experiencing a second spike of flu outbreaks.
If you haven’t already done so, take the time to get the flu shot. The shot protects you from both the A and the B strains. Please note that even if you have gotten the flu from one of the strains, it does not mean that you are protected from the other. The best way to help yourself from becoming contaminated with the flu is by coughing or sneezing into a tissue or a sleeve and not touching your face with unwashed hands
Also, be mindful of the items you are touching. Some viruses and bacteria can live on surfaces, such as doorknobs, phones, and keyboards.
