6 Healthy Holiday Traditions to Try
Each year you and your family may decide to implement new traditions that you will keep for years to come. We wanted to share six traditions to consider to keep you on track for a healthier lifestyle.
1. Bake Healthier Treats
Many holiday treats consist of cookies, breads, cakes and other food items that aren’t the healthiest for you. You can find a plethora of healthy alternatives online that you and the kids can test out. Who knows… you may find your new favorite recipe without all the calories.
2. Make Family Holiday Meals Lighter
Let’s face it; holiday meals aren’t the most healthy option. However, it doesn’t mean that you have to hold yourself back from eating your favorite holiday foods. Instead, take a lighter approach on your favorites. To get you started, here is a healthier spin on your holiday favorites.
3. Take Your Time With Dinner
You put a lot of effort into making this exquisite holiday dinner, so why not enjoy it? Take the time to have a meaningful conversation with your family. Share your favorite stories, talk about important events, or go around the table and say what you’re thankful for. In addition to building a closer bond, it also helps prolonging the meal to make sure you don’t overeat.
4. Get Up and Move After Eating
After a big meal, make it a routine to get a little exercise. It doesn’t have to be anything extensive, but even just a walk around the neighborhood will do the trick.
5. Light Up the House
There is nothing better than seeing others get in the holiday spirit by decorating the inside and outside of their homes. Instead of laying on the couch after dinner, make it a tradition to get your Christmas tree with the family or decorate the outside of your house with Christmas lights and decorations.
6. Night Time Story Time
Some of the greatest memories are when your parents read a book to you before going to bed. Take a break from the TV, and get back to reading your favorite holiday books to your children. This is such a simple task that will be remembered for a lifetime.
