How to Enhance Your Exercise Routine
As Self Improvement Month comes to a close, we wanted to share some exercise tips that you can utilize not just this month, but every month. It is never too late to start implementing healthier habits.
Exercise With a Friend
Keep yourself accountable by exercising with a friend (socially distanced of course). By working out with a partner, it allows you to get your workout in and catch up with a friend simultaneously. With two people, there’s more accountability and motivation.
Explore Workout Videos
Although gym classes may not be available at this time, it doesn’t mean you can’t continue to do your kickboxing, pilates or Zumba workouts. Browse online for free exercise classes whether they are through your gym or on YouTube. You have a variety of resources to choose from. Also, there are many Instagram fitness influencers that have created their own circuits to try! There’s no shortage of workout content online.
Commit to 30 minutes
We recommend getting at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins. These pack a punch of posivisity, which can lift your spirit and help you keep to your video goals.
Carve out thirty minutes in your day to take a walk into your neighborhood, and add extra exercise to the activities you already do such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or riding your bike to work occasionally.
Binge Your Way to Success
No. We aren’t talking about all-you-can-eat!
Your favorite series can be your workout partner when you are alone. Get on an elliptical, treadmill, or spin bike and open up Netflix or your other streaming service and watch some of your favorites.
You’ve never seen 30 minutes go faster than watching an episode of Friends, The Office, Seinfeld or more. Just remember; without commercials, a typical TV show is about 21-22 minutes.
Don’t cheat that workout!
For a bigger challenge, pick a longer show. You can really burn those calories by rewatching episodes of Game of Thrones, The Amazing Race, or The West Wing!
Stretch Before and After
Stretching is a great way to warm up and close down your workout. It not only relaxes your muscles, but it also helps relieve stress. Even if you think you don’t need to stretch, it doesn’t matter how old you are, it is necessary to ensure that your muscles are ready and do not get strained.
